Digital Panels
Numerous size digital panels are available. Amorphous silicon and selenium panels from 1” x 1” to 16 x 17” and CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Silicon) Scanning Panels from 4” x 4” to 24 x36. Custom sizes are also available. Pixel sizes vary from larger 400 Microns down to 39 microns (CMOS). Some detectors provide up to 16bit images. Frame rate speeds of the detectors vary and can be up to 30 frames per second (real-time) for some of the larger pixel sizes. Some of the smaller pixel size systems can switch from a lower frame rate/high resolution mode to a less resolution real-time mode using pixel binning. All the digital panels being discussed in this paper are capable of higher resolution imaging than that of intensifiers. These detectors are all rigid flat panels which can be mounted in existing film exposure cabinets or into automated exposure and material handling systems. When implemented, your film processor, darkroom and viewing area can all be replaced with a relatively small display and control console for viewing the images. The area needs to provide subdued lighting with minimum reflections.
